 Issue 29, Christmas 2020

Stronger together in 2020

What a year 2020 has been! We give our heartfelt thanks to our members for their amazing support of our research in this one-of-a-kind year.

As face-to-face contact was not possible for most of the year, our research relied largely on online studies – and you generously gave your time and efforts. Incredibly, a record 67,000 study invitations were sent out in this most challenging of years!

Especially heartening was the response to our quickly-mobilised COVID-19 studies. Despite their own hardships during lockdown restrictions, over 5,500 twins and their families volunteered for our surveys that began in April 2020. Your help has contributed to findings into how the pandemic is impacting Australians and where support is most needed. We’ve shown that twin research can be a vital tool in times of health emergencies.

Further surveys are planned to monitor the longer term effects of the pandemic and we hope you can join in. Look out for updates on our social media channels (links below).

We can be very proud of our combined achievements which are reflected in this Christmas infographic. It captures the year’s highlights plus a sneak peek at what’s in-store for 2021.

No doubt the situation will continue to evolve but, as this year has shown, we are stronger together no matter what challenges lie ahead. We’re also looking forward to sharing some special moments with you in 2021 as part of commemorating our 40th anniversary.

As this unforgettable year comes to a close, we hope you enjoy precious time with your loved ones and a relaxing and happy festive season – stay safe and take care.

Best wishes
From all at Twins Research Australia
